Traditionally, economic analysis has been absent from environmental management and natural resource management. In view of this, we specialize in the applying instruments such as: economic valuation methods, cost/benefit analysis, financial evaluations, economic evaluations, economic instruments for environmental management and design of natural resource management schemes.

These tools are applied for the analysis and evaluation of environmental policies, natural resource management and environmental impact assessment of infrastructure, economic and social development projects.

In this area, Mentefactura also works in sustainable tourism as an alternative for the conservation of natural resources, guaranteeing the preservation of cultural heritage and generating economic benefits for the local population. Our work with national and international institutions has generated an important experience in the design, implementation and management of sustainable tourism programs for public protected areas and private reserves. We use tools such as: tourism market analysis, business plans, tourism development policies and strategies, analysis of limits of acceptable change, etc.

Solid waste management is a universal problem that concerns every inhabitant of the planet. Countries are developing rapidly without adequate systems to manage the different waste produced by their citizens. Worldwide, 2010 million tons of municipal solid waste is generated annually, and at least 33% of it is not managed without risk to the environment.

Mentefactura has been supporting governance processes, from the planning of concrete and achievable actions by national and municipal governments. In addition, it has collaborated in the development of proposals for regulatory instruments and capacity building, always with a social perspective that includes grassroots recyclers in the models of integrated management of municipal solid waste to improve the conditions in which their activity is developed.

Climate change is a challenge that can negatively affect the security, development and well-being of a country’s population. In recent decades, efforts have been made to reduce the vulnerability of social, economic and environmental systems, and at the same time to identify the sectors of the economy in which measures can be taken to reduce GHG emissions.

Mentefactura accompanies processes related to the design of green products, sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as in the design of sustainable solutions, based on the reduction of fossil fuel use and other climate risks.

For several years Mentefactura, has developed several evaluations of programs and projects financed by international cooperation and multilateral funds such as the GEF. The evaluations become the only source of information for funders and implementing agencies at the project level, and provide information on results, project cycle, financial aspects, conclusions, recommendations and outcomes.

Mentefactura advises decision-making processes and definition of public policies through the formation of systemic teams that combine experience and specific knowledge in science, politics, management and economics. We support all phases of policy development, including strategic planning, information gathering and analysis, policy, plan and program design, communication, capacity building and management change.
